Privacy Policy

Writing a Privacy Policy usually feels like a trip to the dentist—necessary but painful. However, since we’re keeping things transparent here at ArtSchoolsLists.com, I wanted to write this in a way that actually makes sense to a human being, not just a robot lawyer.

I’m Ben Aristo, and I believe that if you trust me with your data, you deserve to know exactly what I’m doing with it in plain English. No legalese, no hidden traps—just the facts about how we keep your digital footprint safe while you’re hunting for the perfect art program.

1. The Big Picture: Why Do We Collect Anything?

We aren’t in the business of selling your soul (or your email address) to the highest bidder. Any data we “touch” is used for one of three reasons:

  • To Make the Site Better: If I see everyone is clicking on “European Art Schools” but ignoring the others, I know I need to write more about Berlin and Paris.
  • To Keep in Touch: If you sign up for my newsletter or ask a question, I need your email to hit “Reply.”
  • To Keep the Lights On: We use basic analytics to show our partners that real people (like you) are actually reading this stuff.

2. What Exactly Are We “Watching”?

When you hang out on this site, two types of data come into play:

A. Stuff You Give Us (Personal Info): If you fill out a “Contact Me” form or subscribe to my updates, you’re giving us things like your name and email address. We treat these like gold. They stay in our secure vault and never get rented out to spam bots.

B. Stuff the Site Grabs Automatically (Non-Personal Info): This is the “technical” stuff. Our system sees your IP address, what browser you’re using (shoutout to the Firefox users!), and which pages you visited. This is all anonymous. I don’t know who you are; I just know that “User #402” spent ten minutes reading about RISD.

3. The Cookie Jar (How We Use Cookies)

Cookies aren’t just for the studio snack break. Digital cookies are tiny files that help our site remember you.

  • Essential Cookies: These make the site actually work (like keeping you logged in).
  • Analytics Cookies: These tell us how people move through the site so we can fix broken links and make the experience smoother.
  • Your Control: You can tell your browser to “Reject All Cookies” at any time. The site might be a little slower, but we won’t be offended.

4. Third-Party Friends (and Foe-Prevention)

Sometimes we link out to schools or tools (like SlideRoom or Adobe Portfolio). Once you leave ArtSchoolsLists.com, you’re in their backyard, and their rules apply.

We also use Google Analytics to track our traffic. They have their own massive privacy vault, and you can opt-out of their tracking specifically if it makes you nervous.

5. Keeping the Kids Safe (COPPA Compliance)

This is important. Our site is designed for students aiming for higher education (usually 17+). We do not knowingly collect data from children under the age of 13. If you’re a parent and think your kid accidentally signed up for my newsletter, email me here and I’ll wipe that data immediately. No questions asked.

6. Your Rights (You’re the Boss)

Depending on where you live (like the EU with GDPR or California with CCPA), you have “Data Superpowers.” You can ask us to:

  • Show you what data we have on you.
  • Fix anything that’s wrong.
  • Delete everything we have. If you want to exercise these powers, just shoot me an email. I usually respond within 48 hours.

7. Security: How We Lock the Doors

We use SSL encryption (that little padlock in your URL bar) to make sure your data doesn’t get intercepted by digital pirates. While no “vault” on the internet is 100% unhackable, we follow industry best practices to make sure we’re a very difficult target.

8. Changes to This Policy

The world of digital privacy moves fast. If I change how we handle your info, I’ll update the “Last Revised” date at the bottom of this page. If it’s a massive change, I’ll probably put a banner on the homepage to give you a heads-up.

Still Have Questions?

If any of this is still “clear as mud,” don’t hesitate to reach out. Privacy shouldn’t be a mystery.
